Unitarian Universalist Service Committee

The UU Church of Akron actively supports the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC).  UUSC is a non-sectarian human rights organization dedicated to building a world free from oppression and injustice by partnering with those committed to tearing unjust power structures and oppressive policies.

The UU Church of Akron participates in UUSC’s annual Guest at Your Table program. Church members are invited to place a box on their dinner table to symbolize a “guest” who lacks the many privileges and resources we take for granted. During the holiday season, money is placed in the boxes and then the boxes are returned to church and a donation is made to UUSC from the money collected in the boxes.

The UU Service Committee began as a humanitarian relief organization during the Second World War and continues to be a leader in responding to both natural and man-made disasters. The UU Church of Akron has been a long-time supporter of UUSC’ humanitarian relief efforts, including support for the earthquake victims in Haiti.
