LGBTQ Rights/Marriage Equality

Marriage Equality/Love Wins!!!!!!!

Our church community celebrates the Supreme Court's recent decision and the coming of marriage equality to Ohio! We have a long tradition of performing weddings and commitment ceremonies for gay and lesbian couples and are thrilled finally to sign marriage licenses for all couples!

To learn more about our commitment to and celebration of marriage equality, listen to these testimonials from members of our congregation.

With marriage equality now the law of the land, we invite you to get married at the UU Church of Akron. Our sanctuary offers a lovely setting for a wedding as does our Memorial Garden (weather permitting). Hannah Hall is a large and functional space for receptions and features a restaurant quality kitchen, making it perfect for a catered event. To learn more, visit our Rentals and Weddings page.

If you are interested in getting married at our church or if you would like to speak with our minister, Rev. Tim Temerson, about having him officiate your ceremony, please contact Rev. Tim at

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron is committed to the full and fair participation of LGBTQ persons in our church community and in society as a whole. We work to be welcoming and inclusive in our own congregation and to build a world of love and justice for all people. Past and current programs include marching in Cleveland Pride,  email advocacy on behalf of LGBTQ rights in our local community, and hosting a Pride Prom for LGBTQ youth and straight allies.

Teen Pride Network

The UU Church of Akron has joined with Community Aids Network/Akron Pride Initiative (Canapi) and the Akron chapter of PFLAG to form the Teen Pride Network. The mission of the Teen Pride Network is to provide a loving and caring community for LGBTQ teens in the greater Akron area who are suffering from a sense of isolation and/or hostility in their schools, families, and smaller communities. We aim to provide safe spaces and positive, engaging activities to build community among LGBTQ teens, allies, and caring adults.
