Path to Membership

Becoming a member of a religious community is a deeply sacred act. At the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, we view membership as a shared commitement that will enrich your spiritual life and the life of our church community. Making such a commitment is an important step in your spiritual journey and in the shared journey of this church community.

Membership at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron is accomplished by signing our membership book. In order to become a member, we encourage you to attend the New UU class and/or to have a conversation with our minister. New members are celebrated at an annual new member ceremony during a Sunday morning worship service.

Newcomer Circles

If you are new to our congregation or to Unitarian Universalism, we invite you to attend one of our monthly Newcomer Circles, which are held at Noon after the Sunday morning service. The gatherings are informal, last for about 30 minutes, and always include a delicious snack. Rev. Tim and several lay leaders are present to answer questions. Check the church calendar or the current issue of our newsletter, The Reporter, to find out the date of the next Newcomer Circle.

New UU

For those interested in becoming members of our congregation, we offer the "New UU" class. The class offers an in-depth introduction to the UU Church of Akron and Unitarian Univeralism and covers such topics as UU history and beliefs, the history of the UU Church of Akron (including a tour of our building), and religious education. An overview of the ministries and programs of our church community is provided by leaders of our various ministries.

New UU classes are usually offered three times per year. Lunch and child care are provided.

If you would like to learn more about upcoming Newcomer Circles or New UU classes, or have any questions about becoming a member, please contact Jann Miller.
