LGBTQ Outreach/Welcoming Congregation

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron is proud to be a Welcoming Congregation, meaning we encourage and celebrate the full and equal participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning people in our congregation, in society, and in the world at large.

Along with striving to be a community of welcome, we work to end all forms of discrimination and oppression against the LGBTQ community. Our Welcoming Congregation Team organizes our work on behalf of LGBTQ rights. Recent efforts have included marching in Cleveland Pride, holding a worship service and vigil for Transgender Day of Remembrance, and participating in the Unitarian Universalist Association’s “Standing on the Side of Love” campaign.

To learn more about the depth of our commitment to being a Welcoming Congregation and the impact that commitment has had on the lives of our LGBTQ members, read the reflections given at our most recent Welcoming Congregation worship service held on April 29, 2012.

Weddings & Commitment Ceremonies

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron proudly celebrates the love and commitment of gay and lesbian couples. We offer both weddings and ceremonies of commitment and look forward to the day when all the citizens of Ohio have an equal right to marry.
