Sunday School for Children K-5
Our Sunday School curricula explore five major themes: Unitarian Universalist Identity, World Religions, Social Justice, Judeo-Christian Heritage, and Spiritual Self Development. We use published, professionally developed curricula for all grades.
2012-2013 Curriculum
Kindergarten - Grade 1
PICTURE BOOK UU helps young children understand the Unitarian Universalist faith through stories which illustrate the principles we affirm and the sources of our religious community. Games, songs, and skits make these stories fun and engaging.
Grade 2-3
PICTURE BOOK WORLD RELIGIONS introduces young children to the Hindu, Islamic, and Buddhist faiths through beautifully illustrated picture books. The stories illustrate concepts such as the value of loyalty (Hinduism), the importance of family (Islam), and practicing compassion for all beings (Buddhism).
PICTURE BOOK BIBLE TALES is a fun, friendly curriculum that introduces classic Bible Tales to young elementary children using contemporary picture books. The stories of Noah, Queen Esther, Solomon, Mary and others come alive through songs, skits, and hands on activities.
Grade 4-5
GOD IMAGES examines the ways God images have evolved by exploring the questions, issues, and concerns which have led people to their creation. Several world religions and modern science have all imagined God. This curriculum challenges students to consider what relevance these various god images have for us today.
TRAVEL IN TIME brings our UU principles and heritage to life as the class learns about the origins of Unitarian Universalism in North America through the lives of individuals, past and present, who exemplify the principles of our faith.
Summer Programming for Children K-5
June & July
Fun and Friends program for elementary aged children. Fun and Friends is a gathering of children for games, art activities and making friends during the 10:30 worship service. Teens often join in too, just for the fun of it!
August
UU Summer Camp Sundays - Each Sunday is a special program for elementary age children lead by a special guest presenter. Past sessions have included activities such as native american ceremony, musical games, wildlife rescue and yoga.
