Caring Community

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron is a caring community. Journeying alongside people through the joys and sorrows of their lives is at the heart of who we are as a faith community. We are here to listen, to offer support, and to be a loving presence in the lives of our members and friends.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care in our community is a shared ministry between our minister and the lay pastoral care team, known as the Pastoral Associates. Our pastoral caregivers visit members who are hospitalized, in nursing homes or other forms of residential care, and home-bound due to illness, infirmity, or age. We are also available at church on Sunday mornings, during the week, and by telephone for pastoral conversation and support.

If you would like to learn more about pastoral care in our congregation or are in need of pastoral care, please contact our minister, Rev. Tim Temerson by phone at (330) 836-2206 or email at revtim@uuakron.org.

Caring Committee

An essential part of our church community is the love and care we provide to each other in times of difficulty and challenge. Helping a member of our community who is in need of a hot meal, a ride to a medical appointment, or a card of sympathy or support is the mission of the UUCA Caring Committee.

The Caring Committee (Susan Shah, Chair) recruits volunteers from our church community who are able to prepare a hot meal or provide a ride to a medical appointment. When a need in our community arises, the Caring Committee matches a volunteer with the person or family in need. If you are interested in volunteering to provide a hot meal or a ride, please contact our coordinator of hot meals, Kelly Urbano, or our Ride Share coordinator, Susan Davis, through the church office.

The Caring Committee also connects our community together through weekly cards of sympathy and support. When someone in our church community experiences loss or illness, the Caring Committee puts a card of sympathy and support out for church members to sign on Sunday mornings.

If you would like to learn more about the Caring Committee, please contact Rev. Tim Temerson or the church office.

Nursing & Health Ministry

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron recognizes that physical well being is an essential aspect of our spiritual lives. Led by lay members of our congregation with medical and nursing training, UUCA offers monthly blood pressure screenings as well as information about issues and concerns related to health and well being.

Please contact the church office to learn more about our nursing and health ministry.
