Question!
Youth Service
We invite you to question your deepest beliefs along with those that we believe we all share. We'll stir things up a bit and take a fresh look at our UU principles. Then we may better align our thoughts with our actions to create a more perfect world together.

The Meanings of Food Justice
Rev. Tim Temerson, Allan Lane, Jenni Papp & Tina Ughrin
One year ago, the UU Church of Akron launched a Food Justice Ministry. In that time we have planted a community garden, shared in a “hunger banquet,” offered classes and workshops on ethical eating, the food system, and canning, and volunteered at a local hot meal site. As we begin the second year of this exciting and growing ministry, Rev. Tim will be joined by key leaders of our Food Justice Ministry as we ask, “What exactly do we mean by Food Justice?” Today’s service will include a special collection to support a new community meal program here at the UU Church of Akron and will be followed by an exciting Food Justice program in Fellowship Hall.

The Blessings of Animals: An Interdependence Day Celebration
Rev. Tim Temerson & Rich Roberts, DRE
Human beings are deeply connected to other animals. In addition to the many ways we depend on animals for our survival, they journey with us as friends, as companions, and as beloved members of our families. Today as we mark Interdependence Day, we will welcome our animal friends into the worship service and celebrate the many blessings they bring to our lives. Today’s service is intergenerational, will feature the musical talents of the UU Band, and will include a blessing of the animals as well as a time of remembrance for animals no longer with us. If you choose to bring an animal, please make sure it is either on a leash or in a carrier. If you prefer, bring photographs or other reminders of animals who remained at home or who have died. And plush toy animals are most welcome!

The Journey
from Darkness to Light:
A Meditation on Hope
Rev. Tim Temerson
The coming of spring reminds us of the beauty of new life and the light that nourishes it. But we often forget the importance of the darkness and cold and even death of winter in preparing the ground for spring and for new life. As we mark the Christian holiday of Easter, we will consider the necessary connections between darkness and light, between despair and hope, in our own lives and in the world.
